Art Adventures at MOE
We have covered a lot this first nine weeks. We learned about primary and secondary colors, warm and cool colors, and ventured into complimentary colors. We used a variety of media such as soft pastels, water colors, crayons, and colored chalk. We learned about Kandinsky, Modrain, Klee, and Matisse. Students used their knowledge of line and shape to create Modrain, Klee, and Matisse inspired works. ESE students created collages, did leaf prints, used tissue paper to create pumpkins, and also used colored pasta to make pumpkins.
Zoe's Kitchen has a wonderful program that promotes art in the schools. They supply the canvas, brushes, and paint. Ms. Dubisky and Mrs. Ricabonni's kindergarten class and Mrs. Parson's kindergarten class were chose to participate and have their art work on display at Zoe's Kitchen in Bartram Park. They painted on canvas to the theme: What Makes You Happy. Kindergarten and first grade have finished their clay pinch pots. Second grade made owls out of clay. Third, fourth, and fifth graders will be working on their clay projects in the coming weeks as we learn about form and begin studying Vincent Van Gogh.

"The Dot" by Peter Reynolds Kindergarten students in Ms. Dubisky and Riccaboni's class created their own version of the "dot" We also talked about the artist Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky said that, "everything begins with a dot." Grades first through fifth were inspired by Kandinsky's Concentric Circles to use different media to create their own concentric circles.
Final day of art training. Save your hula hoops, big and small, today we're going to learn how to use hula hoops to weave. I am also getting ideas to use with our ESE students.
I am getting excited about the projects we are going to do this year. Art News: July 26 Art is messy, fun, and inspiring. This year at Mandarin Oaks I have many exciting projects planned. For those who know me, you expect to see me teaching 5th grade but now I teach art. Art is always been a part of my life. I look forward to an exciting adventure in art. Look for a weekly update to this blog. I will post pictures of student work (artists of the month), projects we are working on, upcoming events, and items to save for our recycled art projects. I have been in training where I have gathered some great ideas to use this year. As part of our training we were given the opportunity to use clay. We created a pinch pot, a pig and a lizard. I plan on having the students create 1 to 2 projects that will involve using clay. Here's to a creative year in art at Mandarin Oaks. |
